Green Living Show 2010-2013 at Direct Energy Centre, Toronto

This past weekend we had the pleasure of being a part of the 2013 Green Living Show. We were part of the show in 2010 and 2011 as well [not 2012 as the date of the show was my wedding day].

This show is always a pleasure to be a part of. In addition to the events, the exhibitors are a mixed bag from pretty much every industry. The main theme is eco-friendliness; as well as intrigue – companies that are striving to provide something More; in every sense.

My favorite part of this show; and trade shows in general; is not talking to the big companies – in this case Samsung and Ford – but meeting people from small companies. Individuals; or a few people – working very hard to get something they believe in off the ground. Some don’t even know if they’ll be able to capture the cost of the weekend. That type of risk-taking and drive I respect greatly; as this was the case for me in the early days of HD.. this kind of initiative, I believe, is what keeps our economy going.

Where customization comes in handy…

Despite there being millions of homes; rarely will you find two that are absolutely identical.

This blog entry deals with multimedia units. Not only will the the space a media center occupies be unique depending on the home; there is quite a range of electronics; from PS3′s to large LCD TVs. The trend is towards thinner – narrower, and wireless. Given how quickly technology changes; how do you design a piece of furniture in such a way that you won’t need to get another piece made 2 years from now when it changes again?.. especially when it’s the last piece you want to spend the money on (our specialty)?

Our designs are fundamentally simple; but address the issue of changing technology. The primary way this is done is keeping hidden parts of the backside open; allowing for current wires; while still being hidden enough to not take away from the look. The spacing of the internal shelving accommodates the biggest current units (and not a cm more).

Check out this beautiful TV stand we created for a Toronto customer. It also has doors with internal shelving for electronic systems and storage.

In a space where there is lack of color [grey/black/whites tones] and the goal is to blend with the existing tones rather than stand out from them [a more common strategy]; our greytone/color of unfinished finish option is ideal! Not only do you get the color of unfinished [a lot like the tones of Restoration Hardware tables]; but our signature/innovative epoxy finish [waterproof, durable, smooth].

Amazing Boardrooms Designed for Productivity

An increasingly part of our business is boardroom tables. The contrast of modern commercial spaces and warm, reclaimed wood is a winning combination. Our epoxy finish makes using heavily distressed Ontario barnwood a viable option [smoothness is particularly important on a conference table; as they are often written on]. The jury is still out on whether a beautiful workspace makes employees more productive; but one thing is sure – that meeting with an important prospective client will be more memorable when done on a very unique, character-filled table.
