Recently a company was interested in getting a 14 ft boardroom table from us. After we talked about colour, design, size ect, we narrowed it down to a 14 ft – 48″ wide – 3 post – reclaimed wood [hemlock] table – with the premium epoxy \/ matte polyurethane finish. We only then realized a major snag – how would we get this big beautiful table into the boardroom? The office was in a unique building that only had man doors to get in, a small elevator, and tight stairwells. This is what we came up with …<\/p>\n
Essentially the base of the trestle table [like all our tables] was made so that it could be\u00c2\u00a0disassembled\u00c2\u00a0to get in. The 14 ft – 48″ would be inconceivable to get inside in one piece. The customer preferred not to have two tables that they could slide together; as he felt it would take away from the look. What we did was pre-dowelled, but didn’t glue, the seam in the centre. This allowed the top to be taken inside in two pieces. Then, when\u00c2\u00a0assembling\u00c2\u00a0on site; we re-drilled the dowel holes [as epoxy got in the holes during the finishing process] and slid the two tops together. This resulted in the best possible seam, and a boardroom table that was one complete piece (for reclaimed wood, anyway.. as reclaimed..\u00c2\u00a0particularly threshing floor boards.. are distressed, rough, and not very geometric)<\/p>\n
