If you make a dry piece of wood wet, it darkens up and brings out the patina. The older wood gets, the more patina there is, therefore the darker it is when made wet. A clearcoat finish has the same effect. Some people really like the light colour of unfinished; but want the benefit of our clearcoat epoxy + polyurethane finish which fills in all the distressing we maintained. Our shaker chairs are a simple country style that complement the style of our tables. On this project the customer opted to have them painted black, which provides a nice contrast to the reclaimed wood sawbuck table top.
