Alternative Finish/Painted Reclaimed Harvest Tables Bases

Any of our table bases can be finished in different colours (as opposed to natural clearcoat). Typically this is done to create a contrast between the table top and the floor. If you have a wood floor, and a wood table top, painted legs and skirting (in this case) can break up all the wood grain. Chairs are another way to accomplish the same thing.

See pictures below for an example of this. This particular customer had the table legs and skirting custom finished to the same colour as his walls, to pull in the colour from the rest of the room.

All of our table bases can be substantially customized. For example, a common alternative design to our modern plank style bases is having a square cavity in the posts. This adds detail but also makes the base appear less heavy looking. See below for pictures of this option we used on a Woodstock, ON customers table.

Custom Reclaimed Wood Hutch in Aspley, ON

All our cabinetry is custom made with any quantity of drawers/doors. We take the outside dimensions you are looking for a build everything proportionate to that – not really have any “standard” sizing. The 1″ material we use comes from the interior of old barns; we don’t use the exterior 1″ barn boards given it doesn’t have sufficient structure left to allow for durability.

This hutch we made for a customer in Aspley, ON. It featured a platform that would would slide out (for a TV) and customized interior shelving. This is a good example and how drawers and doors can be scaled to fit your specific requirements.

Large 72″ Round Pedestal Table with Greytone Treatment in Glen Williams, ON

Our unique greytone treatment process has one goal – to maintain the colour of unfinished wood. If you take a dry piece of wood and make it wet, it darkens up. Our product darkens up a lot given how old it is (the older wood gets the darker it gets given the aged patina). Greytone treatment prevents this. It is an ideal colour selection for those who like the tones and character of unfinished but still want the practicality of a clearcoat for easy cleaning, durability and water-proofing.

Reclaimed Wood Kitchen Tables – Custom Smaller Sized Tables When Low Amount of Seating Required

When we custom make smaller tables it is typically for kitchens exclusively (many people are ditching their dining rooms and using one table for kitchen and dining purposes; but there are many still using two different tables given the traditional design of most existing homes). The one nice thing with a smaller kitchen table is the practical saving of space. Kitchen tables are used more for day-to-day activities; with people coming and going. Therefore, it is not uncommon for there to be only 2 people at the table at any given time. To have a lot of length will unnecessarily adsorb space.

Naturally finished reclaimed wood has a broad range of wood tones. This really makes them stand out in cottages with a lot of wood tones, as all the various tones are pulled together into the table. The traditional warmth of dark wood adds to the cottage feel. Check out a great example below – this trestle table was made for a cottage on Acton Island, ON; where we’ve done several jobs. What a beautiful area of Northern Ontario!

Hutches are a great way to easily add significant storage capability in a space. They will help in adding space to your kitchen cupboards by moving items that are not used as often. 9 ft Double Hand-Hewn Posts Table with 2″ Threshing Floor Trays in Pickering, ON Home

The beams we use for our hand-hewn beam pedestal tables come from the large structure of the barn. These were broad-axed by hand by pioneers over a hundred years ago. Not only do they have very unique character and distressing, they are also large and heavy; making for a very sturdy table base. Unique New Trestle Table Style Base – ‘C Base’ in Bolton, Ontario Home

Most of our designs started out with a first customer requesting something that is not seen on our website. Most of the time we can accommodate custom designed bases (as long as they fit with the nature of reclaimed wood). One such base started with a Bolton, ON couple requesting what we’ve called the ‘C Trestle’. Basically the design looks like inverted C’s (perhaps we’ll come up with a more catchy marketing term down the road haha). You’ll see more of these coming up on our website as the design has gained traction. See a good example below!
