West Guilford Reclaimed Wood Desk

Our desks that utilize the “threshing floor walls” design really showcase the beautiful history and character of reclaimed wood. The vertical 2″ gables and drawer boxes allow for a large amount of visible surface area. With a leg or post style desk, there is less visible. This design is ideal for a heavy duty look with ample drawer space.

We created this specific one for a customer in West Guilford, ON (See below)

The Reclaimed Wood Frame Style Table

Our frame style base tables look something like a harvest/trestle hybrid. The mimic the methods pioneers would have used when building the barn frames we source our raw material from. Check out the details on this table (see below) that we custom built for a client in Kincardine, ON.

THE WARMTH OF RECLAIMED WOOD WITH AGED PATINA

The Warmth of Reclaimed Wood with Aged Patina Â

Dark browns, blacks and espresso tones bring a real sense of warmth to a space. Wood, as it ages and is distressed, brings on these tones in large measure. The reason we love reclaimed wood so much is it has been in this process for a century! All it takes is a bit of clear coat finish – no stain – to pull put these rich tones. Obviously, any lathed/cut parts need to be stained or they would be way too light (given the patina only goes so deep). Apart from that, we avoid staining as much as absolutely possible. For some reason, natural wood tends to look good no matter where it goes and is timeless. As soon as you stain everything becomes way more complicated, as you have to worry about matching and stains being discontinued. It seems as soon as staining is involved all requirements -in terms of the space – start down a road of everything needing to become more and more specific over time, limiting options. I once delivered to a new home that had over 15 different types of wood utilized – from posts to flooring to ceiling boards – in many different colored woods. However, nothing was stained – just a simple clear-coat. Surprisingly.. it worked! It did not seem like over-kill of wood or too gaudy.

Reclaimed has the broadest range of natural tones out there. This makes it perfect for pulling in the broadest range of tones from everywhere in a space and acting as a centerpiece.

This table (see below) is a great example of our most typical tables. This table and bench was made for a beautiful home in Pickering, Ontario.

Our biggest table build yet! 30 ft Mississauga Reclaimed Wood Boardroom Table

We custom build tables to any size, even very large sizes. We did a table for a Mississauga company recently that was our largest table since the company was founded. This particular boardroom was very long and required a lot of seating. We cut out and embedded several companies that were managed by this company. At 30 ft x 6 ft wide, it really was impressive to see. Check out the pictures below!

Reclaimed Wood Trestle Table in Etobicoke Home

All our tables can extend up to 18″ on either end.Â Our leaves slide in on heavy duty hardwood rails on the ends. We donâ€™t do drop-leafs orÂ anything that stores under the table as we find these designs too flimsy. Once they are in, they are sturdy and you can lean on them. Given the degree of distressing/character we maintain, we donâ€™t do center leaves.

With a wood table top and wood floor parsons chairs can be a great way to break up wood/make the table top the centerpiece.

Check out this extendable table we created for an Etobicoke couple.

Reclaimed Wood Restaurant Tables

Our two stage epoxy resin and polyurethane finish allows us to use reclaimed softwood (Hemlock and Pine) as it fill in the cavities of the wood and hardens. The finish is very durable, waterproof, hot/cold surface and if it scratches, it won’t take away from the look of the table. Consequently, we frequently do tops for restaurant tables and bars (you can imagine how much abuse restaurant tables get). On many restaurant bar tops there will be an epoxy finish. What makes our product unique is we also maintain nearly all the original distressing from the 2″ threshing floor boards we reclaim. Consequently, not only do you have a practical top to clean, all the authentic character is kept.

Here are some sample pictures from some tables we did for the Cambridge Mill, in Cambridge, ON. In this case we also created a custom branding tool out of steel and burnt their unique logo into every top. Check out the process below!

The classic problem with standard, rectangular tables is that you most easily only see the people across from or the people sitting right next to you. This results in constant leaning forward / leaning backward to talk to someone at another part of the table on your side.

This design solves that by angling in from the center of the table. The angle brings others into direct view much more effectively.

Extended Sawbuck Table with Benches on the Ends in North York, ON

Benches are great for maximizing seating, especially when kids are involved. Many of our customers do benches on the ends as a typical width table (42″) will not seat two people (general guideline is 2 ft/table length/person) but with a bench it is possible.

This table (pictured below) utilized all the strategies for maximizing seating at special events – with two 18″ leaves (stored elsewhere when not in use) and benches for both ends.

Trestle Table and Bench with Greytone Treatment in Woodbridge, ON

Our greytone treatment preserves the colour of unfinished (lighter, greyer tones). If you take a dry piece of wood and you make it wet it darkens up. That darkening is known as patina. With new wood, the wood doesn’t darken all that much. The older wood gets, the more patina it takes on, which is why our non-treatment tables can be so dark. The greytone treatment essentially prevents the clearcoat from pulling out the patina. We apply a specialized sealer before the clearcoat process. There really is wood options that are considered natural – natural unfinished and natural finished.

This trestle table we made for a customer in Woodbridge, ON got the greytone treatment. Many do this option when they want to keep everything lighter or to contrast the table with a dark floor.

Aged Patina of a Reclaimed Wood Buffet Sideboard in Cambridge, ON

The older wood gets, the more patina and colour it gets. Since the raw material we use is over 100 years old, the wood has a lot of patina and a range of tones. This is primarily why we don’t stain the wood; just using clear coat to pull out the natural tones of the wood. The range of tones that comes through allows our furniture to pull together many different colours in a space – from black to every shade of brown to paler oaky tones.
