Old Growth Pine is a lot different than new pine. In original natural Ontario forests the trees would grow taller rather than wider [although wider as well] so the grain was tight. New pine is commercially grown so the trees are spaced further apart [allowing for more sunlight] so the trees grows a lot quicker. Since very few will wait 100 years to harvest their bush these days there won’t be wood like this ever again, especially combined with the pioneer distressing. Customized Ontario Barnwood Table for a Brampton, Ontario Home
All our furniture is custom built from scratch, so there are a lot of modifications that can be made in our designs. This customer, for example, opted for no bread board ends [the perpendicular boards at the ends that most of our tables have]. While you won’t have the original worn edges at the ends, you will be able to see the end grain of the long boards. See pics below!
