The colour of exterior barn boards is different than the internal floor boards, our barnboard greytone treatment option fixes this. Some of our customers love the colour of barnboard. The barn floor boards we use [threshing floor] is less exposed to the elements so won’t be in this colour. The goal of this treatment option is to match barnboard. Actual exterior barn boards can’t be used as they’re are too structurally deterioted. Check out this pedestal table we made for a West Montrose home with this option. We custom build desks from old Ontario barnwood. Combined with our epoxy + polyurethane finish, we can maintain the original pioneer distressing while still being practical, good to write & spill on, ect. For this Ottawa desk project, the customer opted for our bleached greytone treatment option, which maintains the light colour of unfinished and cuts out the brown tones. See pics below! If you make a dry piece of wood wet, it darkens up and brings out the patina. The older wood gets, the more patina there is, therefore the darker it is when made wet. A clearcoat finish has the same effect. Some people really like the light colour of unfinished; but want the benefit of our clearcoat epoxy + polyurethane finish which fills in all the distressing we maintained. Our shaker chairs are a simple country style that complement the style of our tables. On this project the customer opted to have them painted black, which provides a nice contrast to the reclaimed wood sawbuck table top.
